ST. CLOUD, Minn. — One night after beating the La Crosse Loggers on a dramatic walkoff home run, the St. Cloud Rox found another way to win.
St. Cloud scored one run in the first inning, added two more in the fifth, then rode the pitching of Dominic Austing to the tune of a 3-0 Northwoods League victory over the struggling Loggers Thursday night.
Austing, a sophomore from NCAA Division II St. Cloud State, tossed five shutout innings, striking out four and walking two for the North Division-leading Rox (8-2). He allowed four hits before being relieved in the fifth.
La Crosse, which fell to 2-8 and last place in the 10-team North Division, got a 2-for-3 performance from Sage Bruhl, who is hitting .265 on the season, and one hit each from Mike Ferri and Yahir Gurrola. Hunter Davis took the loss for La Crosse, allowing two hits and three earned runs in four innings. He struck out four and walked three.
La Crosse is at the Rochester Honkers tonight. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
