ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School girls golf team began a quest for a third consecutive MVC championship on the right foot Thursday.

The Hilltoppers placed four individuals in the top five to cruise to a 22-stroke victory over second-place Aquinas at the Coulee Golf Bowl in the first conference meet of the season.

Senior Erin Ericson earned medalist honors, shooting a 1-under par 36 to help lead the Hilltoppers to a team score of 162. Ericson was followed by teammates Katie Chafoulias (40), Amber Nyugen (42), and Alyssa Achenreiner (44). Aquinas junior Annie Balduzzi tied Nyugen for third place. Tomah’s Molly Larsen and Sarah Peterson rounded out the top five by shooting a 44.

Westfield Invitational

WESTFIELD, Wis. — Tomah’s boys got off to a promising start in its their meet of season with top-10 finishes from Trevin Nelson (18:43) and Eugene Peterson (18:54) and a third-place team performance.

Freshman Hannah Wilcox-Borg (22:11) finished third overall to lead the seventh-place Tomah girls.

Onalaska Invitational

ONALASKA — Emma Gamoke had 67 total kills on the day to help the Hilltoppers go 4-1 to finish second in the silver pool and finish with 7-3 overall record after going 3-2 Wednesday.

The Hilltoppers (7-5) defeated Boscobol 25-14, 21-25, 15-3, Sparta 25-16, 25-14, Mineral Point 25-13, 15-25, 15-7, and G-E-T 25-21, 24-26, 15-9. The one blemish came in a 25-19, 25-20 defeat to the hands of Richland Center.

MVC

Tomah 3, Logan 1

Led by Reis Derousseau’s 18 kills and four aces, the Timberwolves defeated the Rangers 25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19.

Derousseau, a senior, also had seven digs to go along with her 18 kills. Abbey Larsen led Tomah with 19 assists.

Sophomore Marissa Kleman had eight kills, three assists, one ace, 20 digs, and five blocks to lead Logan.

GREEN BAY — The Red Raiders walked away with two victories at the Green Bay Preble Invitational. Elizabeth Burelbach (No. 2 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of Madi Lund and Cydney Livingston both went 2-0 to lead Central.

Holmen 1, Onalaska 1

ONALASKA — Matt Espelien netted a goal to give the Vikings (1-0-1) a 1-0 first half lead. But Mario Villasenor scored the equalizer for the Hilltoppers (0-0-1) in the second half.

Logan 3, Tomah 0

Eli Szymanski contributed to all three goals for the Rangers in the shutout at Swanson Field. Szymanski scored on a direct kick in the 15th minute, then assisted Andrew Simms goal in the 51st minute.

Nonconference

Winona Cotter 4, Coulee Christian 2

Coulee Christian took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Cotter (1-0) rattled off four second half goals.

Caleb Deleeuw had a goal and an assist for Coulee Christian (1-1).

LA CRESCENT — Freshman Amanda Iverson scored all four goals in the home opener for the Lancers in the shutout win.

Onalaska/Holmen/Aquinas 94, River Falls 74

ONALASKA — Claire Hale won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles (26.40; 58.57) to help the O/H/A swim team start its season with a bang.

Eva Marchiando also won a pair of races — the 100 butterfly (1:10.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:23.39).
