NEEKOSA, Wis. — The Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School football has its identity, and it didn’t stray away from it at all in its opening game of the season on Thursday.
The Red Hawks ran over, around and through Nekoosa en route to a 43-0 nonconference win on the road.
The Red Hawks (1-0) had 334 rushing yards and 383 total yards of offense in a game it led 29-0 by halftime. Coach Jon Steffenhagen's team has won its opening game the last four seasons.
Senior Ben Behan scored G-E-T's first four touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards on just 11 carries. He also caught two passes for 49 yards and returned four punts for 50 yards.
Brett Lettner scored on a 27-yard run in the third quarter and Dylan Johnson on a 7-yard run in the fourth for G-E-T, which held the Papermakers (0-1) to 90 total yards and 76 on the ground.
