Senior Chris Thompson announced officially from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau High School on Wednesday that he will continue his education and basketball career at NCAA Division II Upper Iowa University.

Thompson played four varsity seasons with the Red Hawks and received significant playing time starting with his first game as a freshman.

The 6-foot-4 forward averaged 22.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.2 steals per game for G-E-T (18-7), which had an eight-year run of Coulee Conference championships ended by Black River Falls but finished second and knocked the Tigers out of the WIAA Division 3 playoffs.

Thompson scored 25 points in a loss to Onalaska and 23 in a loss to eventual state champion Prescott. He also scored 28 in the playoff win over Black River Falls.

Thompson finished his career with 1,517 points, which ranks second to Nick Wagner's 1,815. He is the program leader in career steals (236), ranks third in career rebounds (585), fourth in career assists (270) and sixth in career 3-pointers made (104).

He averaged 15.2 points and 5.9 rebounds while playing 100 games, and the team posted an 82-18 record with one trip to the WIAA state tournament.

Upper Iowa was 17-15 last season and 10-12 to tie for fifth place in the eight-team South Division of the NSIC.
