MAUSTON — It came down to the last possession for the Aquinas High School boys basketball team as they left the Mauston High School gymnasium with their first loss of the season.

Mauston finished off a comeback and took down the Blugolds 67-66 in a nonconference matchup.

Aquinas led 36-24 at halftime, but couldn’t keep up that defensive effort in the second half.

Conley Malone led Aquinas with 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half, while going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Jared Everson tallied 12 points, all in the first half, and Brandon Merfeld finished with 10.

Cade Hall and Joe Bauer led Mauston (2-1) with 21 points apiece, with each adding three 3-pointers. Hall finished the first half with 15 points, followed up by a 14-point second half from Bauer.

Three Rivers

La Crescent 60, Kingsland 53

LA CRESCENT — Ben Nelson scored 22 points to help the Lancers make a comeback after trailing at halftime.

La Crescent allowed just 15 second-half points, while Luke Schwartzhoff scored 13 to help Nelson pace the offense.



Houston 66, LeRoy-Ostrander 32

LEROY, Minn. — Alyssa Rostad’s 26 points helped propel Houston (2-1, 2-0) to its second conference win.

Amber Chapel added 18 points for Houston, which led 40-17 at the half, as Jessica Kitching finished with eight.

Hailey Hungerholt led the Cardinals (0-3, 0-2) with 17 points.


Holmen 58, Eau Claire North 47

EAU CLAIRE — The Vikings’ (4-0) balanced attack and 20-for-23 night from the free-throw line helped them stay ahead of the Huskies (3-2).

Brooklyn Paulson led all scorers with 15 while going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Kendra Leis followed with 14 points and led Holmen with seven rebounds. Savannah King and Caitlin Young added nine points apiece.
