MADISON — The Aquinas High School volleyball team took part in the high-powered, nine-team Madison Edgewood Inviational on Saturday, finishing with a 1-3 record.
The Blugolds fell to host Madison Memorial 25-22, 25-20, then dropped a 26-24, 22-25, 15-9 decision to Waunakee. Beaver Dam then beat the Blugolds 27-25, 25-18 before coach Danielle George’s team capped its day with a 25-13, 25-19 over Waupon.
“A lot of the teams (at the tournament) are ranked in their division by the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association, so it was very good competition for us,” George said. “We struggled a bit in the early going.”
Lexi Donarski led Aquinas with 24 kills and 23 digs in the four matches, while Kyah Steiner added 18 kills. Teammate Claire Dolan dished out 48 assists in addition to recording 10 ace serves.
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Thanks to five top-10 finishes, Prairie du Chien’s girls won the seven-team small-school field at the Dick McKichan invitational with 36 points.
Amber Huser finished third overall with a time of 20 minutes, 6 seconds. Karly Jaynes (20:14.2) finished sixth, followed by Meg Katzung (20:47.2) in eighth, Greta Hein (20:51.9) in ninth and Ella Hein (21:00.1) in 10th.
Steve Johnson Invitational
WAVERLY, Iowa — Being the only Wisconsin team at the Steve Johnson Invite, the Onalaska cross country teams found a way to leave their mark.
The Hilltopper girls took first in the 24-team field with 67 points. The Malecek sisters led the Hilltoppers with Cora Malecek (19:05) finishing fifth overall. Sisters Lydia (19:14) and Amalia (19:41) took in ninth and 14th, respectively. Ellie smith (19:58) finished 17th while Audrey Clements (20:22) finished 28th for Onalaska.
On the boys side, the Hilltoppers placed 14th in the 23-team field. Leading the way was AJ Erbin (17:15), who took 34th.
