The eighth-ranked Titans qualified for their first WIAA Division 2 team state tournament by beating Evansville/Albany and fifth-ranked Lodi in sectional duals in Viroqua on Tuesday.

VIROQUA — The Melrose-Mindoro/G-E-T co-op wrestling team is headed to the WIAA Division 2 team state tournament for the first time after winning two sectional duals on Tuesday night.

The eighth-ranked Titans beat fifth-ranked Lodi 31-30 in the championship match after taking care of Evansville/Albany 46-24 in the semifinals.

Jack Marley, Julian Purney, Hunter Andersen, Jaden Anderson, Landon Lockington and Sam Jansen all won twice for the Titans, who will compete in the state meet at the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse on March 2-3.

Marley (39-6) won twice by pin, stopping Evan Senter at the 4-minute, 24-second mark at 120 in the semifinal and Jaedon Heintz in 1:11 at 126 in the championship dual. Purney (38-5) won by pin at 126 against Evansville/Albany’s Austin Schofield and beat Lodi’s Austin Soehle 12-3 in the championship.

Jaden Anderson (28-13) won his first match by pin and second by technical fall at 160 and 152, while Lockington (32-11) won twice by major decision at 182.

Josh Marciulionis (29-13) gave the Titans the winning points against Lodi with a 7-4 decision over Gabe Mabin at 285. That outcome gave Melrose-Mindoro/G-E-T a 31-18 lead with three matches left. Lodi won the last three matches, but the Titans held on.
