PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — The Prairie du Chien High School wrestling program, now in a co-op with Wauzeka, is in its 49th season of existence, but it accomplished something new on Saturday.

The Blackhawks won a WIAA Division 2 team regional championship.

PdC/Wauzeka wrestled its way to a team score of 249½ to finish comfortably ahead of second-place River Valley (191) and third-place Dodgeville (170) and earn a spot in Tuesday night's team sectional at Viroqua.

The fourth-ranked Blackhawks will meet sixth-ranked Lodi in one of two semifinals that begin at 6 p.m. Melrose-Mindoro/G-E-T wrestles Evansville/Albany in the other, and the winners battle over a sectional title in a dual that starts at 8 p.m.

Sectional champions advance to the team state wrestling tournament at the UW Fieldhouse in Madison on March 2-3.

The Blackhawks advanced nine individuals to the Richland Center Sectional on Feb. 17, and six of them will be bracketed as champions. The top three finishers at each weight advance to the individual state meet at the Kohl Center in Madison on Feb. 22-24.

Matt Rogge (106 pounds, 38-10), Traeton Saint (138, 43-3), Blake Garcia (145, 30-9), Tyler Smock (152, 33-12), Nick Rogge (160, 41-5) and Stephen Ronnfeldt (195, 37-7) all won championships for PdC/Wauzeka.

Bradyn Saint (126, 35-13), Reid Koenig (132, 29-13) and Colten Wall (220, 39-7) all placed second.

Matt Rogge advanced to the finals with a pin, then beat River Valley's Jimm Jennings 2-0 for the championship. Traeton Saint, ranked fifth at his weight, posted a pair of pins and finished Richland Center's Warrick Wolf (18-3) in the third period of the championship match.

Garcia also had two pins and ended his championship match against Dodgeville's Riley Cook (24-12) just before time expired. Sixth-ranked Nick Rogge won by technical fall and decision, beating seventh-ranked John Phelan (35-9) of Dodgeville 5-4 in the final.

Ronnfeldt beat two wrestlers with more than 20 victories and pinned River Valley's Brock Mahoney (28-12) by pin for the regional title.
