A football-only realignment plan set to install for the 2019 season passed an 8-2 vote by the WIAA Board of Control on Friday.
The plan, which dissolves the Coulee Conference and shifts many local teams to different conferences on this side of the state, will next undergo a 40-day appeal process for any school involved. It will then be taken to the Board of Control for another vote, but four members will need to be flipped to change the outcome.
In the plan, which is aimed at aligning schools with similar enrollment sizes:
Aquinas and Onalaska Luther would head south to form part of one eight-team conference with Cuba City, Darlington, Fennimore, Iowa-Grant, Lancaster and Mineral Point.
Arcadia, Viroqua and Westby will join Dodgeville, Platteville, Prairie du Chien, Richland Center and River Valley in another conference. Black River Falls and G-E-T combine with Adams-Friendship, Mauston, Nekoosa, Wautoma and Wisconsin Dells in another.
The MVC will consist of Central, Logan, Holmen, Onalaska, Sparta, Tomah and West Salem.
SUMMER BASEBALL DOWN TO FINAL SEASON: The Board of Control also voted unanimously to make 2018 the last season for its summer baseball program.
