Sophomore Lauren Steien will represent the Coulee Region as part of the Black River Falls co-op girls team at this weekend’s WIAA state swimming and diving meet in Madison.

Steien, who helped Blair-Taylor to a runner-up finish at the Division 5 state softball tournament last spring, has been added as an extra qualifier in the 200-yard individual medley after second-place finish and time of 2 minutes, 16 seconds during Saturday’s Division 2 sectional at UW-Stevens Point.

Steien had already qualified automatically with her sectional victory in the 100 buttterfly (1:00.1). She will swim in Lane 8 of the second heat in the 100 butterfly and Lane 2 of the first heat in the individual medley.

Steien also qualified in both events as a freshman, placing sixth in the butterfly and 10th in the individual medley. Her qualifying times give her the eighth seed in the butterfly and 13th in the individual medley.

Division 2 preliminaries and finals are at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium on Friday. Timed finals begin at 6:30 p.m., and Steien is the only local qualifier in Division 1 or 2.
