The Aquinas High School girls basketball team was awarded the No. 1 seed this morning for the upcoming WIAA Division 4 state tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

The Blugolds (26-0), who lost last season's championship game to Howards Grove, will play fourth-seeded Crandon (22-2) in a 6:35 p.m. semifinal on Thursday. Crandon was seeded second in its regional group before knocking off top-seeded Shiocton and then beating the other side of the bracket's No. 1 -- Marathon -- in Saturday's sectional finals.

Melrose-Mondoro (26-0) is seeded second in the same bracket and plays third-seeded Manitowoc Lutheran (21-4) in the second semifinals, which will begin at approximately 8:15 p.m. Thursday. The Mustangs are making the first state appearance in program history.

Bangor (24-3) was given the second seed in Division 5 for its second straight state appearance. The Cardinals match up with third-seeded Clayton (24-3) in the second semifinal at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Black Hawk (26-0) was awarded the first seed and plays Wausau Newman (21-6) at 9:05 a.m. Friday.

The Division 5 championship game begins the Saturday schedule at the Resch Center at 11:05 a.m. The Division 4 title game follows at 12:45 p.m.
