Onalaska High School and Iowa State University graduate Matt Thomas has signed a one-year contract to play basketball for the Obradoiro club of the Spanish League, according to the organization’s website.

Thomas, who helped the Los Angeles Lakers win the NBA Summer League championship in Las Vegas, said last week that he had been in negotiations with several organizations overseas and many teams in the NBA.

Obradoiro completed an 11-21 season in May and failed to qualify for the playoffs in the Liga Endesa. The team begins its season in October.

UW-Green Bay and Winona Senior High School product Alec Brown played for Obradoiro in the 2015-16 season.

Thomas averaged 9.6 points per game for the Lakers during eight summer games. He averaged 20 points and made 14 of 16 attempts from the 3-point line in the last three games. He finished with a 23-point effort in a 110-98 win over Portland in the finals of the Summer League Tournament.

Thomas, a 6-foot-4 guard, was an Associated Press All-State first-teamer for Onalaska and helped it win a WIAA Division 2 state championship as a junior. He then made 254 career 3-pointers and averaged 8.5 points over 138 games for the Cyclones, who made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament with Thomas on their roster.
