NEWTON, Iowa — The NASCAR Xfinity racing debut of 22-year-old Ty Majeski didn't go as planned Saturday night, but there were some things the rising star from Seymour, Wis., can take away from the race.
Majeski, who has run a limited schedule the past several years at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, ran well in practice and in qualifying, turning the 10th fastest qualifying time in the 40-car field for the American Ethanol E15 250 at the Iowa Speedway.
Majeski turned that qualifying time into a good starting position, then moved up to as high as sixth place early in the race. He continued to run in the top 20 for much of the first half of the race, but cut a tire and had to pit in the second stage. Then, on Lap 143, he was involved in an accident when trying to drive around a car that had spun out.
The impact on the right side of Majeski's No. 60 car did significant damage, and he was done, 107 laps short of the finish. He wound up with a 34th place finish.
