WILLMAR, Minn. — The La Crosse Loggers used a four-run rally in the fifth inning to tie their Northwoods League game with Willmar Friday night, but the Stingers would answer.
Willmar pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, then held off La Crosse 6-5 at Bill Staunton Stadium.
The win evented the Stingers mark at 12-12, while La Crosse – which had its two-game winning streak snapped – fell to 9-16.
Willmar’s Josh Bissonette singled to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, advanced to second on a passed ball, then to third on a wild pitch. He then scored the winning run when Danny Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly.
La Crosse managed just six hits against Willmar pitching, with David Villar going 2-for-5 to push his average to .377. Jake Hirabayashi went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for La Crosse.
Willmar recorded 11 hits against three La Crosse pitchers. Jason Seever started and allowed five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings, then was relieved by Taylor Turner. Turner pitched 2 1/3 innings, then was relieved by Grant Ford in the seventh. Ford was tagged with the loss.
