Elmer E. Jorgensen, 90, of Tomah died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at the Serenity House in Tomah.

He was born Dec. 6, 1926, to Victor and June (Murphy) Jorgensen in Tomah. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, and was a World War II veteran. He was united in marriage to Gloria Hughart, March 24, 1956, in Shennington. She preceded him in death July 10, 2012. In his younger years Elmer, farmed and worked for the railroad. He worked for Northwest Telephone for many years until his retirement. After his retirement he worked as a handy man at the Comfort Inn. In his free time Elmer enjoyed hunting, working in his garden, cooking, playing cards, and traveling with Gloria. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed making people chuckle. He always kept busy and was always doing something. Elmer will always be remembered for being a quiet man, who was very soft spoken. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and was very proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Keith, of Tomah, Glenn, of Madison, David, of Wagner, South Dakota; a daughter, Beth (Kirk) Funk, of Tomah; nine grandchildren, Heather (fiancé, Tim) Jorgensen, Brandis (Ethan) Schuh, Shane (Shannon) Jorgensen, Travis (fiancée, Rachel) Jorgensen, Kyle (fiancée, Jenny) Jorgensen, Sumer (Luis) Jorgensen, Gloria (Eric) Ash, Joshua (Chelsea) Byars, and David (Chris) Byars-Allman; 13 great-grandchildren; and one expected great-grandchild; a sister, Mae Rochester of Black River Falls; a sister-in-law, Lillian Jorgensen of Camp Douglas; many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; a sister, Mary; two brothers, Charles and Jack.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1221 La Grange St. Pastor Mark Benning will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakdale Cemetery with military honors.
