Helen M. Baumgarten, 93, of Tomah passed away peacefully, Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Cranberry Court in Tomah.

Helen was born Aug. 27, 1924, to Pearl and Margaret (Goodenough) Olmstead in Wisconsin. She married Gale Baumgarten Jan. 17, 1942, and together they had five sons. Helen and Gale farmed their whole married life. She was a wonderful farm wife and loved working the farm and raising vegetables and berries in her gardens. She was well known for her wonderful home cooked meals. She always had room at the table no matter who happened to be there at meal time. Her table was always full and no one ever left her home hungry. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Helen is survived by her sons, David (Helen) Baumgarten of Spring Brook, Wis., Dean (Priscilla) Baumgarten of Tomah, and Dan (Bernice) Baumgarten of Tomah; grandchildren, Jodie (Kathy) Baumgarten, Christian (Erin) Dawley, Bruce (Amy) Baumgarten, Alicia (Brian) Borchers, Jessica (Jon) Baumgarten, Brandon (Katie) Jarchow, Michael Baumgarten, Kristi (Kasey Pierce) Baumgarten; great-grandchildren, Joel, Steven, Jasmine, Hunter, Jackson, Liam, Benten, Kayden, Gavin and Greysen; one daughter-in-law, Karen Baumgarten of Tomah; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Olmstead and Jeanette Baumgarten; along with other relatives and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gale, in 1989; two sons, Dennis and Donn Baumgarten; five brothers, Douglas, Virgil (Louise), Raymond (Ruth), Donald (Erma May) and Robert Olmstead.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Tomah. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Tomah. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 18, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church.
