Lawton Oxendine, 79, of Tomah passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse.
He was born Nov. 5, 1937, to Moses and Julia Mae Oxendine in North Carolina.
Lawton was united in marriage to Geraldine Revels. He was a hardworking man who spent his working years as a welder. In his spare time he enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, hunting, being outdoors and raising Monarch butterflies. He volunteered at the Tomah VA Hospital for over 10 years. Lawton was a loving husband and father, he was generous and kind hearted and will be deeply missed by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine; his son, Tony (Kim) Oxendine and his daughter, Beverly Oxendine; grandchildren, Katie and Alex; siblings, Ila Jones of California, Evelyn Maynor, Juliette Brayboy and James Oxendine all of North Carolina and Everette Oxendine of Michigan. He is further survived by countless nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers, Calhoun, Moses, Blanche and Gokonile.
Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Ho Chunk prayer service Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Richard Mann will officiate.
