Leonora “Non” A. Schleicher, 97, of Tomah died suddenly Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at the Tomah Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 22, 1920, to Louie and Helen (Kolb) Seflow in Warrens. Non was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Mathew’s Lutheran Church in Kirby. She was a member of the Tomah High School graduating class of 1938. She was united in marriage to Frank E. Schleicher Aug. 8, 1942. He preceded her in death Jan. 18, 2001, 17 years and one day to her date of death. They lived in the town of Oakdale, since the mid 1940s until January of 2014, when she moved to Touch of Home. Non always enjoyed the visits from her son, Kit, when he would stop on his way home from work.
She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church and was a member of the Esther Circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She worked for the VanPak Plastics in Tomah, Foss’s Bakery and at Burnstads Grocery Store for 11 years, until her retirement in 1982. She managed to care for a huge garden and along with her husband, raised pheasants and operated a mink ranch. Non has been known to raise several baby squirrels and a baby red fox. She was an excellent cook and made many different deserts and wonderful biscuits. Non enjoyed playing cards and taking long rides throughout the countryside. Non babysat for her grandchildren and was a very loving and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a best friend in her sissy Elaine, and the two of them were almost inseparable. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by three children, Kit (Mary), Ted (Wanda) both of Tomah and Kay (Dave) Willborn of Madison; six grandchildren, Jay Schleicher, Holly (Greg) Larson, Jeffrey Schleicher, Jody (Matt) Riggs, Michelle (Jason) Schmidle, Chad (Heather) Willborn; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake, Jakob, Isaac, Patrick, Ava, Ty, Cade, Theran, Kalea and Ella; a sister, Elaine Miller of Tomah; a sister-in-law, Marguerite Seflow; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband of 59 years, Frank, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth (Fritz) Handy; two brothers, Gilbert (Jane) Seflow and Leonard; five brothers-in-law, George, Ted, John, Lew and Art Schleicher; four sisters-in-law, Mary (Merle) Prell, Mathilda (Elton) Johnson and Edythe (Arnie) Guthrie and Josephine (Lester) Balthis.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 525 Superior Ave., Tomah, The Pastors of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church.
