Mary Frances Bailey, 94, of Tomah died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at the Mayo Health System in Sparta.
She was born June 8, 1923, to John and Mary (Rowan) Bailey at St. Mary’s hospital, Sparta. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta. Mary graduated from Sparta High School in 1941. She received a degree of bachelor of science in home economics and education, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1945. She earned a degree of master of science in home economics, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1955. Mary’s career started at the County Extension Department in Appleton, Wis., as a home agent. Later she worked for Northern States Power Company, as a home economist in the Home Service and Consumer Information department in Minneapolis.
After 33 years of service with Northern States Power, Mary retired in 1988. At that time she moved to Tomah and retired with her sister, Margaret. She was a member of St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church and St. Loretta Guild.
She will be remembered for her sharp memory, natural intelligence and her meticulous presentation. Her personality traits and fond memories of her will live on in her family.
Mary is survived by her sister, Ruth Ellen (Bailey) Eirschele also of Tomah; and her brother, Douglas (Beatrice) Bailey of Royalton, Minn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Margaret.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Queen of the Apostles Parish in Tomah. Father Keith Kitzhaber will officiate. A private family burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sparta, at a later date. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church.
