Matthew “Matt” Baggot, 47, of Tomah passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017.
Matt was born in Tomah, Feb. 16, 1970, and graduated in the Tomah Senior High School class of 1990. He attended Culinary School at the Colorado Mountain College, and was an excellent and passionate chef. For many years, Matt cooked at fine restaurants in the mountains in Colorado, during the winter season, and at restaurants on the banks of Lake Erie, during the summer season. Matt loved many things in this life including his family, he was the youngest of 12, whom he loved deeply and dearly, especially his mother, with whom he had a deep bond and commitment. He loved his friends who are spread across the U.S., and he loved food. He loved buying food, preparing it, and watching others enjoy the spectacular creations he could make. At the time of his death, Matt was working at the Carlton Restaurant in Tomah. He was a kind and gentle soul, and the world will miss his spirit and love.
Matt is survived by his mother, Mary, of Tomah; and 10 siblings, Betsy (John) Gilner of Crystal Falls, Mich., Kathy (Tom) Stilwell of Franklin, N.C., Mary Allen of Amherst Junction, Eileen Dutter of Eau Claire, Wis., Andy (Holly) of Middleton, Wis., Maureen (Bob) Huerter of Omaha, Neb., Jerry (Karen) of Chicago, John (Ann) of Madison, Wis., Teresa (David) Pierce of Tomah, and David (Shelly) Baggot of Tomah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Baggot; his brother, Joe; and a brother-in-law, Art Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Queen of the Apostle’s Church at St. Mary’s, 315 W. Monroe St. Monsignor Richard Gilles will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the church.
