WARRENS — Roger L. Jensen, 86, of Warrens passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at the Serenity House in Tomah.
He was born June 23, 1931, to Russell and Della (Bunde) Jensen in Jackson County, Wis. Roger graduated in 1949 as the valedictorian of his class at Lincoln High School in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954 as a pharmacist.
Following his discharge from the Army, he lived in Milwaukee from 1940-1962. Roger was united in marriage to Donna Surges March 20, 1954, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Together they moved to Warrens, where they owned and operated a cranberry marsh. Roger also worked as a rural route postal carrier for 20 years. Following his retirement, Roger and Donna enjoyed living in Florida, during the winter months. They also enjoyed many trips together over the years, but their favorite excursion was traveling to the Holy Land of Jerusalem.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Gary (Rhonda) Jensen of Warrens; and his daughter, Dawn Oswald of Warrens; grandchildren, Russel Oswald, Andrew Oswald, Teresa (Matthew) Forsberg and Reanna (Bryan) Beck; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Chloe, Luke and Mason Oswald, Abigail, Stella, and Natalie Beck and Adrienne Forsberg; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Della; and a son-in-law, John “Shorty” Oswald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Kirby. Pastor Phillip Enderle will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be held in the Danavang Cemetery, Warrens. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Tomah. Family and friends are also invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday, Oct. 19, at the church.
