A 24-year-old Tomah man was referred to the Monroe County District Attorney after allegedly driving drunk and fleeing police Nov. 4.

Police were dispatched to Butts Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. after a witness told police a man, later identified as Ryan Michael Beck, was staggering to and from his vehicle. Before police could arrive, the caller said Beck entered his vehicle and headed southbound toward Tomah Recreation Park.

An officer located the vehicle on East Clifton Street and followed it to a convenience store, where Beck exited his vehicle. He got back into the vehicle a short time later, and the officer followed Beck before activating his emergency lights on Stoughton Avenue. Beck allegedly ignored the emergency lights and led police on a chase on residential streets. The report said Beck’s speed reached 50 mph on Grant Street.

The report says Beck pulled to the curb on the 1200 block of Butts Avenue and fled on foot before he was Tasered and apprehended. A search of his vehicle reportedly found two opened bottles of beer. The report says Beck had bloodshot eyes and that he refused to voluntarily submit to a blood test.

Beck was referred for third-offense drunk driving, obstructing an officer, fleeing an officer, operating after revocation and failure to install an ignition interlock device. He was issued municipal citations for speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign and open intoxicants in a vehicle.
