A 21-year-old Tomah man has been implicated in what the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office described as a hit-and-run crash that occurred Dec. 14 in the town of Byron.

According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses reported a vehicle driving on Hwy. N at a high rate of speed before crashing into the property of two separate residences. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop after crashing and continued south on Hwy. N before taking Hwy. G west.

The crash caused extensive damage to multiple trees, a chain link fence and large outdoor portable greenhouse. Vehicle parts left at the scene included a passenger side mirror and multiple silver-blue colored pieces from the striking vehicle exterior.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a silver-blue Dodge Avenger.

The driver was later identified as Jaden K. Baumbach of Tomah. He turned himself in the following day and told police he lost control of his vehicle, over-corrected and left the scene because he panicked.

The matter remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
