State Rep. Ed Brooks, R-Reedsburg, has announced he will seek another term in the state Legislature.
Brooks has served in the Assembly, representing the 50th District, since 2009.
“Over the past few years, I’ve had the honor of representing my neighbors from the 50th district,” said Brooks. “In that time, unemployment has decreased from 7.6 percent to 4.5 perdent, income taxes are down, property taxes are lower and access to opportunity has increased. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but as a father and grandfather, I know that we have to keep working to ensure that the next generation can go even farther than we have. That is why I am running again, and that is why I ask for the people’s support.”
In recent months, Brooks has pushed the Rural Wisconsin Initiative, a package of legislation aimed at improving access to health care, education, technology and workforce opportunities for rural residents.
“Rural people deserve access to the same opportunities that city dwellers have,” Brooks said. “I’m committed to ensuring that our communities remain places where people and families can live, work and grow.”
Brooks is being challenged by Reedsburg Democrat Art Shrader.
The 50th Assembly District covers all of Juneau County and the towns of Clifton and Glendale and village of Kendall in Monroe County.
