A Republican Congressman who represented Monroe and Juneau counties in Congress for 24 years won’t be voting for Donald Trump.
Tom Petri is among 30 Republican former members of Congress who signed a letter opposing Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.
“Sadly, our party’s nominee this year is a man who makes a mockery of the principles and values we have cherished and which we sought to represent in Congress,” the letter states.
The letter, which was signed prior to the revelation of a video in which Trump is recorded making crude sexual remarks about women, didn’t urge a vote for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton or any third-party candidate.
“We may differ on how we will cast our ballots in November but none of us will vote for Donald Trump,” the letter says.
Three have endorsed Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson.
Petri was elected to Congress in a 1979 special election and retired in 2015.
