Martha Laning, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, will be the special guest at the grand opening of the Juneau County Democratic party campaign office at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20. The office is located at 101 East State St., Mauston.
“We’re very excited that Martha will be able to join us. It’s a real honor to have her visit our county,” said Lisa Vieth, chair, Democratic Party of Juneau County.
A businessperson from the Sheboygan area, Laning was elected state party chair in June 2015.
Art Shrader, candidate for the 50th Assembly District will also be speaking at the opening event. He is running for the seat held by Ed Brooks, R-Reedsburg.
“We’re having a big celebration with special guests because no one can remember there ever having been a Democratic campaign office in this area,” Vieth said. “We knew it was time. We can see the voting patterns are changing.”
Staffed by volunteers, the office opened Aug. 15 and will remain in place until mid-November. Candidate yard signs are available. The hours are usually noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
“The campaign office is something we did by ourselves. We knew that we had to be self-reliant to get it up and running. We don’t have big outside money funding the work we do, just people in this area,” said Vieth. “We’re hoping the public will come to see how they can make a difference in this year’s elections.”
