SPARTA—A man and a woman are facing domestic violence-related charges after an argument April 17.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, Kyle J. Schmitz, 21, Norwalk, and Skylar L. Vian, 21, Sparta, argued over an email on Schmitz's phone. Schmitz told police that during the argument, he attempted to hug Vian several times and she slapped his face approximately a dozen times.
According to the report, during the course of the argument, Schmitz made a comment that caused both Vian and another woman present to grow concerned. Schmitz went to his truck, where a loaded Ruger .357 magnum was located, as well as a mostly full bottle of cherry liqueur. Shortly after, the other woman present spoke to Schmitz and took possession of the gun and alcohol while Vian called police.
Schmitz was taken into custody on charges of domestic violence-related disorderly conduct and endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon. Vian is accused of domestic violence-related disorderly conduct and battery.
In other police news:
*Danielle D. Carlton, 22, Tomah, is accused of physically abusing a three-year-old girl two to three months ago.
According to the police report, Carlton admitted to pushing the girl away while she was cleaning. Carlton told police she used two fingers and attempted to push the girl's shoulder, but hit the girl's neck instead, leaving a bruise.
Carlton was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail.
*Two men are facing burglary, theft and criminal damage to property charges after they were accused of breaking into a barn and taking a tool box.
According to the police report, Justin L. Dorris, 28, Stoddard, and Mitchell S. Moore, 22, Viroqua, went to a property near Cashton and forced their way through the frozen shut door and used a bolt cutter to cut a chain that connected the toolbox to a post in the barn.
*Jacob M. Hazlett, 22, and Priscilla R. Ingles, 23, both of Sparta, are facing domestic violence-related disorderly conduct charges after an argument got out of hand April 16.
According to the police report, Hazlett told police Ingles pushed him during the argument and he attempted to call police, but Ingles blocked him from the phone. Hazlett is accused of threatening to kill Ingles and then threatening to slash another woman's tires.
*Todd D. Rugg, 45, Sparta, is facing his third drunken driving charge after an officer found him travelling in reverse on Highway 27 before travelling very slowly forward, swerving back and forth in the lane and eventually coming to rest on the side of the highway.
According to the police report, the officer spoke to Rugg and smelled intoxicants before asking Rugg to complete several field sobriety tests. According to the report, Rugg failed three sobriety tests, and a preliminary breath test showed he had a blood alcohol content of .241.
Rugg was taken into custody and issued a citation for third offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
*Adam R. Albertson, 22, Sparta, is facing his first drunken driving charge after an officer found him parked on the side of the road at 1:30 a.m. April 21.
According to the report, Albertson told police he had stopped to drop off a friend, but he could not tell police where his friend lived. The friend was not present in the vehicle.
Police say Albertson smelled strongly of alcohol and failed several field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed Albertson had a blood alcohol content of .250.
Albertson was taken into custody and issued a citation for first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
