One person is dead after a fatal car crash in the town of Wilton Friday.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 30-year-old man was driving a Toyota Corolla westbound on Highway 71 shortly before 7 p.m., when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle slid across the highway, struck a guard rail end, went into the south ditch and rolled over several times before vaulting over a creek and landing on its roof.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County medical examiner.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives. The sheriff’s office and medical examiner were assisted by Wilton Ambulance Service, Wilton Fire Department, Monroe County 911 Communication Center and Monroe County Highway Department.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
