It will be Holmen, not Tomah, that will challenge La Crosse Aquinas for the Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball championship.
Tomah’s bid to force its way into the MVC title mix ended Tuesday with a 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 loss at Holmen. Tomah fell to 5-4 in the MVC, while Holmen improved to 8-1 and moved into a first-place tie with Aquinas.
The Vikings snapped a three-match Tomah MVC winning streak. It marks the first time this season in MVC play that the Timberwolves were swept in three games.
Reis Derousseau led the Timberwolves’ offense with 16 kills. Madisyn Brey led the defense with 13 digs.
Kenzie Winker had 13 kills, seven digs and three service aces for Holmen.
The Timberwolves can still play a role in the MVC race. They host La Crosse Aquinas Tuesday, Oct. 10, and a victory over the Blugolds can boost Tomah’s seeding in WIAA Division 1 tournament play that starts Thursday, Oct. 19 with regional semifinals.
Tomah’s final regular season match is Thursday, Oct. 12 at La Crosse Central.
