It was a great comeback that fell just short.
Tomah rallied from a five-run deficit to deadlock the contest in the top of the seventh before dropping an 8-7 Mississippi Valley Conference softball decision at La Crosse Logan Tuesday.
It was the MVC opener for both teams, and it was Tomah’s first loss of the season.
The Timberwolves tied the game at 7-7 with three runs in the top of seventh before Logan won the game with one out in the bottom of the inning.
“We started pretty tense, but after we got into the game we started to relax,” Tomah coach Dan Wall said. “If we stay relaxed and confident with focus, I feel we can play with most any team.”
Tomah trailed 7-4 heading into the seventh, but a deep fly ball by Journey Smith that was dropped by a Logan outfielder pushed two runs across that tied the game.
Logan produced the winning run on an RBI single from Olivia Witcraft.
Savannah Murphy led the Tomah offense with a pair of solo home runs and four runs scored.
The Timberwolves have sent four home runs over the fence in three games, and Wall said his team is “pretty confident” at the plate.
“There are still some issues to work on, but we feel we are a good hitting team,” he said.
The Timberwolves had home contests last week against Baraboo and La Crosse Aquinas postponed. The Aquinas contest will be made up as part of an April 26 doubleheader at Aquinas.
An April 5 contest at La Crosse Central was postponed and rescheduled as part of a May 1 doubleheader in Tomah.
Saturday, Tomah travels to the Sun Prairie Invitational for contests against Sun Prairie, Oak Creek and Oconomowoc.
