The Tomah High School boys soccer team has made recent progress, but it failed to show up in the victory column.

Tomah came close to breaking through before losing a 2-1 nonconference decision at Arcadia Sept. 28. It was a much-improved result from the 7-1 home loss the Timberwolves suffered to Arcadia last season.

The Timberwolves returned to Mississippi Valley Conference action Tuesday and dropped a 3-0 decision to Holmen, but the rematch was a more positive result than the 7-1 loss that was handed to Tomah Sept. 5.

Tomah’s record fell to 1-10 in the MVC and 1-12 overall.

Conzemius said the Timberwolves had a chance to win at Arcadia.

“Offensively we were a bit unlucky to not pull out the win,” Conzemius said. “We hit two off the top bar, and the goalie saved a one-on-one breakaway shot. The boys put together a greatly improved offensive and defensive effort but fell just short of earning a result.”

Arcadia scored goals in the 14th and 54th minutes before Tomah scored in the 59th minute. Jayden LeQue scored the goal, assisted by Noah Nick.

Tomah goalkeeper Nolan Stees made seven saves.

The Timberwolves return home Tuesday, Oct. 10 to host La Crosse Aquinas in an MVC game that starts at 5 p.m at Veterans Field. It’s a rematch of a Sept. 12 contest Tomah won 5-1. It’s also Tomah’s final home match of the season.

The regular season ends Thursday, Oct. 12 with an MVC match at La Crosse Central. WIAA Division 1 regional tournament play starts Tuesday, Oct. 17.
