The Tomah High School girls varsity reserve basketball team rallied in the second half but fell short in a 42-34 loss to La Crosse Central in a Mississippi Valley Conference game Tuesday in the THS gymnasium.

The Timberwolves fell to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the MVC.

Tomah trailed 27-11 at halftime but rallied in the second half behind Lexi Spiers, who scored all nine of her points after halftime.

Abby Sherwood also scored nine, while Ruth Schwichtenberg scored six.

The Timberwolves also lost recent games at Wisconsin Rapids (47-35) and La Crosse Aquinas (64-24).

Alyssa Whaley was Tomah's leading scorer against Wisconsin Rapids with 10 points. Ella Plueger had nine, Savannah Murphy scored seven and Shani Tiber added five.

Spiers led the Timberwolves at Aquinas with six points.

Tomah travels to La Crosse Logan Friday for a 4:15 p.m. contest. The earlier time will accommodate a boys/girls varsity doubleheader at Logan High School.
