The Tomah High School varsity reserve girls basketball team played a pair of competitive Mississippi Valley Conference contests but fell just short of victory.
Tomah lost a 42-39 home decision to Onalaska Jan. 12. Tomah led 23-19 at halftime, but a pair of 3-point shots by Onalaska proved decisive in the second half.
Alyssa Whaley led the Timberwolves with 22 points. Lexi Spiers scored seven, followed by Abby Sherwood with five, Shani Tiber with three and Ruth Schwichtenberg with two.
On Jan. 16, Tomah scored just nine points in the second half and lost 31-29 at home to La Crosse Aquinas.
Spiers led the Timberwolves with 13 points and made five of eight foul shots. Whaley had six points, Sherwood had four, Tiber and Amelia Schanhofer both had two, and Emily Powell and Hope Carlson had one each.
Coach Hailey Brown’s team returns to action Tuesday with an MVC contest against La Crosse Central starting at 5:45 p.m.
