ST. PAUL/VIROQUA — Aileen Jeanette Olson Baesemann of St. Paul, formerly of Viroqua, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, after suffering a traumatic blow to the head in a pedestrian/car accident.
She was born March 14, 1946, in Dickinson, N.D., to Chester and Clara (Pierce) Olson. Her family soon moved to Viroqua, where she spent her childhood and graduated from Viroqua High School in 1964. She earned a bachelors of science in speech pathology from UW-Eau Claire in 1968, and a masters in public health from the University of Michigan in 1977. She subsequently accepted a position at Gillette Children’s Hospital in St. Paul, in hospital administration. She eventually became hospital administrator at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, until 2008.
Retirement provided the opportunity to spend more time pursuing her many interests, including hiking, traveling, wildlife photography, reading and discussion, holistic wellness and exercise, nurturing her cats, and her abiding devotion to spiritual growth. Aileen has been an active member and supporter of the YMCA, a variety of conservation and nature organizations, Saint Mary’s Episcopal Church, and in later years, the Tergar Meditation Center. So many people have been moved by her attentive and genuine interest in them as unique individuals. She invested much of her time, energy, and love into experiencing her life as a rich unfolding.
Aileen is preceded in death by her father and mother; and brother, Daniel Olson. She is survived by three sisters, Connie Olson, Kathleen Hanson and Maxine Olson; sister-in-law, Ila Olson; special friend, Dana Kelly; Collin and Drew Davis-Johnson, to whom she was an adopted fun aunt; 10 nieces and nephews; 13 grandnieces and nephews; her cats, Katie and Cassie; and many friends who formed her Twin Cities family.
