VIROQUA — Arthur LeRoy Anderson, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Vernon Manor in Viroqua.
He was born Oct. 24, 1934, to Charles and Lena (Gald) Anderson. He was confirmed at Utica Church, and attended Col. May School House until the eighth grade. He left school to help on his family farm and continued farming the rest of his life, which was his passion. He married Carolyn Mae Jahn Oct. 30, 1955, in Tomah. He worked at the Tobacco Warehouse in Viroqua, Beatrice Foods in Beloit, Wis., drove school bus, delivery driver for Dolly Madison, and then worked for the Vernon County Highway Department from where he retired. He served on the Vernon County board for several years, and also the Jefferson Township board. Art and Carolyn purchased their farm in 1959, where their family lived and worked together.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Brian (Cindy) Anderson, Terri Bullock, Laurie (Karl) Schmig; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Ernest (Margie) Jahn. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lena Anderson; brothers, Marvin (Vera) Anderson and Clifford (Vernetta) Anderson; sisters, Kelly (LaVerne) Gabrielson and Arlene (Arlen) Henthorn; his mother and father-in-law, Arnold and Dorothy (Beller) Jahn; one son-in-law, David Bullock; as well as one grandchild, Jacob Karl Schmig.
He was a great Dad and an even greater Grandpa!
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church, rural Purdy. Pastor Don Greven will officiate. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
