VIOLA — Audrey M. Cosgrove, 87, died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at her home near Viola.
She was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Milwaukee, to Louis L and Hilda (Linke) Reiff.
Audrey graduated from Messmer High School in Milwaukee, in 1947, and attended Mount Mary College, where she received her bachelor of arts degree in mathematics in 1951. She started her teaching career in 1952, at El Paso High School in El Paso, Ill., where teaching math, arts and reading would become her passions. She would continue on pursuing those passions by teaching at Pius XI Catholic High School in Milwaukee, then at the Kettle Moraine School District in Wales, Wis., and the Kickapoo School District in Viola. Audrey received her Master of Education degree in reading from UW-La Crosse, in 1987. She continued teaching until 1994, when she retired from the Kickapoo School District.
A loving mom, wife and teacher, Audrey was active throughout her life. In addition to her teaching career, she helped farm with her husband, Tom, whom she married Feb. 7, 1959. She was also a 4-H leader and Girl Scouts leader. Audrey loved nature, especially butterflies and songbirds. She enjoyed oil pastel painting, crocheting, basketry weaving, craft making, reading, puzzles and crosswords.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Thomas Cosgrove of Viola; and two children, Jacqueline Zimmerman of Albany, Wis., and Michael Cosgrove of Watertown, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Hilda Reiff; sister, Suzanne Bridget; and daughter, Katherine “Katie” Marie.
Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Bruno’s Cemetery in Dousman, Wis. The family asks that any flowers and sympathy cards be sent to Pagenkopf Funeral Home in Oconomowoc, Wis., prior to the beginning of the graveside services.
