SALEM, S.C./DE SOTO — Donald Burless Robertson, 79. of Salem S.C. left this world to be with our Lord Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, due to complication from scleroderma. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
Don was born was born Dec. 26, 1937, in De Soto in Vernon County, to Frank and Beulah Robertson. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1955, where he was active in band and football was an honor student. He joined the U.S. Navy and served four years, where he was assigned to the Point Cruz Aircraft Carrier. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse. He then received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He had a successful career at Kimberly Clark. He and his wife, Marilyn, retired to Keowee Key, in 1999. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family. One of Don’s greatest enjoyments was that for several years he would return to De Soto and join his son, John, his brothers, Dick and Jim, and nephews to hunt ducks. You can take the boy out of the Mississippi, but you can’t take the Mississippi out of the boy. He was an active member of the Eternal Shepherd Lutheran Church in Seneca, S.C.
Don is survived by his wife, Marilyn Robertson, who he married in 1963; a sister, Pat Nelson; a son, John (Claire) Robertson; and daughters, Anne Robertson and Elizabeth (Michael) Henning. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, who called him “Pa,” CJ (15), Grace (14), August (11), Jacob (11), Sophia (10), Ellie (10), and Avery (5).
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jim and Dick Robertson; and a sister, Judy Hanrahan.
