VIOLA — Gerald Bassett, 84, of Viola, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018.
Gerald was born March 27, 1933, to Clarence and Alice (Hill) Bassett in Minocqua, Wis. He graduated from Minocqua High School. Gerald enlisted in the U.S. Air Force June 18, 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict as a member of the security service as a translator. He was honorably discharged June 17, 1956. On Feb. 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Donna Behn and they had four children together. Gerald was very active in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He loved to watch Packers games.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Donna; four children, Debra Bassett, Mark (Gloria) Bassett, Tina (Eric) Blount and Becky (Ron) Anderson; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; four siblings, Alice, William, Edna and Martha; and other nieces, nephews, and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jesse George, Robert, Lester and Winifred; and two granddaughters, Rebekah LeeAnn and Amanda Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate with a luncheon following the service. Friends may call from 11 a.m. till the time of service at 1 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of plants or flowers, memorial may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
