VIROQUA — Gillian Dorothy Langaard, 100, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at the Onalaska Care Center.
She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Purdy Valley, rural Viroqua, to John and Mattie (Davidson) Olson. She attended Purdy rural school and March 24, 1937, married Lloyd Langaard at Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in the town of Coon, Vernon County, until retiring and moving to Viroqua in 1976. She had been active in 4-H, held offices at the Bethany Lutheran Church ladies aide, the Rebecca Circle, and the Viroqua Eagles No. 2707 Auxiliary. She enjoyed the Senior Citizens Club and was a member of the Harry Olson Senior Club in La Crosse. She enjoyed dancing, cards, fishing, visiting with friends, painting and most of all her family. Lloyd died May 31, 1998.
Gillian is survived by one son, Lars (Diane) Langaard of rural Westby; one daughter, Susan of La Crosse; five grandchildren, Larry (Heather) Zielke, April (Jason) Risberg, Matthew (Zorro) Zielke, John (Kathy) Langaard, and Sarah; and numerous grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Ramon Olson of Viroqua; and one sister-in-law, Lorraine Olson of Viroqua.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Pederson and June Snell; and three brothers, Eugene Olson, Peter “Sonny” Olson, and David “Buddy” Olson.
Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Thorson Funeral Home in Viroqua. Family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place in the Esofea Bethany Cemetery.
