Lorren O. Ramsett, 86, passed away in Milwaukee Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017, surrounded by his loved ones.
Lorren was born in Viroqua, July 27, 1931, to Oscar and Hilda Ramsett. He grew up in Esofea, the youngest of five children. His parents owned a dairy farm and grew tobacco. Lorren learned the value of hard work early on as he milked cows every day before and after school and planted tobacco with his parents. This work ethic was ingrained in him for the rest of his life.
The family moved to Viroqua, where he attended and graduated high school. Lorren joined the Navy at 18 and served in the Korean War. On Sept. 1, 1951, he came home on a three day leave and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Hollie, of Westby. After leaving the navy, Lorren pursued a college degree in civil engineering, graduating from the University of Wisconsin. The couple then moved to Green Bay, Wis., where Lorren began his career at Wisconsin Public Service. Various promotions throughout his career, and the formation of his own consulting company took him to many places throughout the country. Upon retiring, he and Mary settled in Onalaska, in order to be closer to family.
Lorren and Mary had four children, Rhonda Way (Bobby), Joni Robertson (Jon), Terrance Ramsett, and Thomas Ramsett (Lori). He also had six grandchildren, Jeremy Gonwa (Christine), Becky Sorenson (Brad), Christopher Robertson, Lauren Robertson, Annie Ramsett and Jack Ramsett; as well as four beautiful great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary; his parents; his brothers, Denver and Glen; his sisters, Ardis Jacobsen and Dorothy Snyder.
No service will be held at this time. Internment will be held Saturday, May 18, 2018, at the Viroqua cemetery.
