VIROQUA — Spencer Fox of Viroqua, 84, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Vernon Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Leon, Wis. Dec. 16, 1933, to George and Mary (Paulson) Fox. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served on the front lines in the infantry. He married LaVonne Mae Stone Feb. 26, 1955, in Wilton, Wis. They later divorced. He worked as a tool and die maker for John Deere in Iowa, and later in various machine shops in Milwaukee, Wis. and Rockford, Ill.
He retired and lived in Viola, Readstown, LaFarge, Soldiers Grove and finally Viroqua. He liked to hunt deer and ginseng. He also liked to fish and build model ships. He was a member of the Hamilton Harris American Legion Post in Viola.
He is survived by one son, Spencer Michael (Crystal) Fox of Richland Center; five daughters, Linda Krocher of Denver, Colo., Kathy Andersen of Richland Center, Sandra (Steve) Peterson of LaFarge, Mary Rusk of LaValle, Wis., and Gwen (Michael) Young of Viroqua; 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Robert Gudwer; and one brother, Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Sime Funeral Home in Readstown. Steve Peterson will officiate and burial will be in the Kickapoo Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
