A bicyclist from Hillsboro was injured in a two-vehicle crash at about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, on Hwy. WW just north of Cepek Road in the town of Hillsboro.
A vehicle driven by Mitchael Beckwith, 20, of Hillsboro, was traveling south on Hwy. WW. Beckwith was driving into the sun and did not see a bicyclist, Gary Cepek, 66. Cepek was going the same direction as Beckwith. The Beckwith vehicle hit Cepek’s bicycle, causing him to be thrown off the bike and travel down an embankment, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
Cepek was transported to Gundersen St. Joseph Hospital in Hillsboro for life-threatening injuries by Hillsboro EMS. He was later flown to Gundersen Health in La Crosse by Gundersen Air.
The Hillsboro Fire Department and Hillsboro EMS assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
