Thanksgiving Day is an opportunity for people to gather for food and fellowship. Area churches and organizations are gearing up to provide just that, by serving community dinners with all the trimmings.
The Viroqua Ministerial Association is hosting a free community Thanksgiving dinner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 400 Congress Ave., Thursday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Members of various area congregations will prepare and serve food donated by them and many area businesses.
For delivery to the homebound, leave a message by calling 608-675-3100 by Tuesday, Nov. 21. Leave the name of the homebound person, address, phone number and the number of meals to be delivered. Carryouts will not be available.
The Thanksgiving Day community dinner will be held in the basement of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 306 S. Main St., Thursday, Nov. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents unable to attend the dinner in person can request home-delivery meals by calling 608-634-4871.
Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served at La Farge Free Methodist Church, 214 S. Cherry St., Thursday, Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Carryouts are available; the meal is free. In-town delivery of meals will be available that day starting at 11 a.m.; call the church at 608-625-6242.
A Thanksgiving Eve dinner will be held at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church activity center, 303 N. Main St., Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 4-6:30 p.m.
The community meal, which is prepared and served by members of the congregation, is free of charge, however, freewill donations of food or cash are welcomed and encouraged. Every dollar given, every food item donated the day of the meal and all of the leftovers go directly to the Stoddard Community Food Pantry.
