Several events are planned at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve during October.
The Kickapoo Valley Reserve Friends of the KVR Pasta Supper will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 5-8 p.m. The meal includes pasta, salad, homemade garlic bread, beverages and homemade desserts. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the KVR. The fee is $8 one trip, $10 two trips and $5 kids.
Trails by Light of the Hunter Moon will be held Friday, Oct. 6, from 6:30-8 p.m. With an astroeducator, visitors will be able to view the highlands, maria, craters, rays of the full moon, planets and constellations. There is no charge.
The Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge Triathlon takes place Saturday, Oct. 7. For more information about the triathlon, visit http://kvr.state.wi.us/DamChallenge/.
The Friends of the KVR Photography Contest ends Saturday, Oct. 14. Winners will be announced at the Holiday Happening Dec. 2. Visit http://kickapoofriends.org/ for complete contest details.
Woodland Stewardship for Women takes place Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Are you a woman who owns land and has questions about how to care for your woods? At this one-day informal workshop, women will spend the day connecting with other women landowners and learn how they can be an active steward of your woods. Trail Challenge 2017 continues. Adults are challenged to hike all 60 trail segments, and kids are challenged to hike 20 trail segments within the Reserve during the calendar year. Participants can stop in the visitor center to pick up a form or visit http://kickapoovalley.wi.gov to print one. All completed forms must be delivered or postmarked by Dec. 31. Complete the list to earn a prize and be entered to win a 2018 annual pass.
A Migrating Bird Hike will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. A KVR educator will lead the hike. Call the visitor center at 608-625-2960 to register. The fee is $8 per person and free for 10 and younger.
