A 43-year-old Holmen man was shot in the shoulder while squirrel hunting on public land east of Coon Valley, Sunday.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Department, Lee Vang, 43, Holmen, was shot in the shoulder by a hunting partner, Alcedin Vang, 44, Eau Claire.

Lee Vang was treated at the scene and transported by Tri-State Ambulance to Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse.

Assisting at the scene was Coon Creek Fire and Rescue.

The land the group was hunting on was public hunting land owned by the state of Wisconsin.

According to the sheriff’s department, the men were part of a group of hunters and the incident occurred when Alcedin Vang shot at a squirrel.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR.
