The Second Harvest Foodbank’s mobile food pantry will come to 212 Main St. in Gays Mills, Wednesday, Nov. 22. Please note that this will be the day before Thanksgiving. Food distribution will be from 2-3 p.m. Patrons who may suffer from waiting in line outside are encouraged to arrive between 2:15 and 2:30 rather than arriving early. Also, per Second Harvest Foodbank’s regulations, smoking in line outside is strictly prohibited. Please respect others in line by not smoking. Normal distributions include about 60 pounds of diverse food products including meats, fresh and preserved produce, and breads.
Patrons do not need to meet income guidelines; but, they will be asked to initial a sheet indicating their household needs food assistance. They also need to provide the check-in volunteer with the number of people (including children and senior citizens) in the household and the name of their local post office. First-time patrons will be asked how they learned about the mobile food pantry.
People should bring sturdy bags, boxes or baskets to hold the food they receive, since a limited number of boxes are available on site. Volunteers will assist by moving food to vehicles as needed.
In October, food was given to 174 households which included a total of 405 people. One hundred thirty-eight seniors and 106 children benefited from the food distribution. Recipients came from 18 communities in four counties.
