A rural Cashton man was injured in a one-vehicle accident at about 10:37 a m. Sunday at the intersection of Division and State streets in the village of Ontario.

The accident happened when a vehicle being driven by David J. Hanson, 85, of rural Coon Valley, was traveling north on Division Street. The driver attempted to make a right turn on to State Street and collided with a street sign and a power pole, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.

Hanson refused medical treatment by Ontario Ambulance. A passenger in the vehicle, Darrel Amundson, 73, of rural Cashton, received non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident and was transported to Tomah Memorial Hospital by Ontario Ambulance. Neither Hanson nor Amundson were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Airbags were deployed in the vehicle.

The Ontario Fire Department also assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
