Hwy. 56 was shut down for about three hours Saturday, April 14, as the result of a single-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Engh Lane in the town of Jefferson.

According the the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, at about 4:10 a.m. Casanova Coy, 16, of Avoca, was traveling westbound on Hwy. 56 when he lost control of his vehicle around a corner near the intersection of Engh Lane, causing the vehicle to go off the road, striking a telephone pole.

Hwy. 56 was shut down due to power lines laying down across the highway. At the time of the crash, Coy was wearing his seat belt.

The driver’s side and passenger side airbags deployed. Coy did not sustain any injuries.

The Viroqua Fire Department assisted at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
