Petersheim crash

A motorcycle driven by Josiah Jon Petersheim of Soldiers Grove crashed and landed under a truck operated by Gordan Dale Peterson of De Soto on Saturday. This photo was taken after the motorcycle was slid out from under the truck.

A teenager was airlifted to the hospital Saturday after his motorcycle crashed into a truck and he got stuck underneath it.

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department reported the accident happened at about 2 p.m., in the town of Franklin, south of Viroqua.

Josiah Jon Petersheim, age 17, of rural Soldiers Grove, was driving a motorcycle north on Hwy. 27, near the intersection of Hwy. 82. Gordon Dale Peterson, age 69, of rural De Soto, was driving a truck south on Hwy. 27. The Peterson vehicle turned left into a private driveway and the motorcycle struck the passenger side of the truck. The motorcycle went onto its side and came to rest under the rear of the truck, trapping Petersheim.

Petersheim sustained serious injuries and was extricated by the Viroqua Fire Department before being airlifted to Gundersen Medical Center, in La Crosse. Petersheim was wearing a helmet and protective upper clothing.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Petersheim was still hospitalized in La Crosse, but reported in stable/good condition.

Peterson, was not injured.

Tri-State Ambulance, Med-Link Air, a volunteer from the North Crawford Rescue Squad and several citizens assisted at the scene.
