A UTV went through the ice on the Mississippi River near the Stoddard Municipal Boat Landing, Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Andrew G. Loomis, 31, of La Crosse, was operating a 2017 Polaris side-by-side on the ice on Running Slough approximately 100 yards southwest of the Stoddard Municipal Boat Landing, according to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office. Loomis crossed a pressure ridge and went through the ice. Loomis went in the water but was able to get himself out. However, the UTV was completely submerged. Loomis did not report any injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
The Stoddard-Bergen Volunteer Fire Department, Tri-State Ambulance and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Sheriff’s Office.
